The Alsatian Winstub between the Cathedral
and the pier for the boat rides in Strasbourg
Enter a half-millennium restaurant !
In 1934, it is a winemaker who buys the place, which then turns into a Tavern. The name «Pfifferbriader» evokes in Alsatian «the Piping Brothers» or «Players of Flutes». In the Middle Ages, storytellers, entertainers, jugglers and singers travel from city to city to showcase their talent during festivities or seigniorial meals. One of these low buildings remained, frequented mainly by nobles of the region, who came to buy wine and brought their bread to eat there.
The Winstub is fitted out on two floors and can accommodate 90 people. A beautiful terrace of 95 places well quiet on its pedestrian square allows to enjoy both a good meal and a stunning view of the cathedral.
The atmosphere is warm and authentic with its wooden tables dressed in the typical Alsatian «kelsch» fabric complemented by traditional decorative objects and rustic character assured with its low ceilings and exposed beams.
The windows represent the life of the winemakers and the three emblematic castles of Ribeauvillé.
The Pfifferbriader or the «Pfiff» as the intimates call it, embodies in itself the soul of the Winstubs.
